How Much Should You Pay for Your Train Trip Through the U.S.?

Going on a train trip through the U.S. is going to be a great adventure: you can see stunning vistas, a lot of panoramas that are unforgettable as they are breathtaking, and so many different people from many different walks of life who will enrich your view of what it means to be an American. Of course, you will need to allot a lot of time in order to get through a train trip: this isn’t exactly traveling at the speed of light, and the essence of the trip is in the journey, not the destination. You will need to sit back, relax, and see the world. You will also need to pay for your trip, and this could mean many a pretty penny out of your pocket.

How much you should pay will depend on many different things. For instance, there are long term train tours that will take one to two weeks to complete; there are also short term scenic train trips that will take two to four days such as are available from Kentucky tourism. Of course, the long term trips will be more expensive on the whole, but if you break the costs down per day, they can be cheaper. However, this is true only for long term train tours that do not include lodging or hotel stays, and entrance fees to popular destinations along the way. Some tour packages will include all these fees, along with meals and special gatherings with other passengers. The more expensive the tour package, the greater the number of amenities included.

The fee that you have to pay will also depend on what exactly your train trip will entail. Some train trips, such as those that go through Napa valley, will include wine and fine gourmet dining, so they can be more expensive than say, a countryside tour such as Ohio tourism trips that do not involve food or wine. Other train trips will involve stopovers at popular U.S. tourist destinations, such as the Grand Canyon, and they can be more expensive compared with smaller, lesser known tourist destinations. Of course, distance plays a big role: the farther you go, the more expensive your train trip will be.

What seats you pick will also dictate how much you have to pay. Economy seats will come with bunks in overnight coaches, and they can be made more expensive if you have better seats that allow you to watch movies, see the countryside from an observation point, and eat in the dining carriage.

The fees that you have to pay will also depend on the time of the year that you book your ticket. If you book months in advance, then you will certainly get lower prices. Moreover, if you decide to go through train trips that are seasonal, such as those that go through New England during the Autumn for a foliage tour, then you may have to pay more. There are also special seasonal trains such as the Christmas train, which can be expensive, but which can be a great experience for you and your family.

In the end, how much you have to pay will depend entirely on you. Do you want to have a lot of stops, or do you want to simply stay on the train? Do you want luxury seats or ordinary ones? Do you want to go to popular destinations or go off the beaten track?  My favorite is a South Dakota tourism trip through the black hills. In any case, factor all these together so that you can have the vacation that you want.

A Gift for Young and Old Alike, Bonsai Trees!

Nov
02

When it comes to giving a gift, there is always that question of what is the best for this year?

If you are like me, you want to give something that is different, fun, pretty, useful and of quality. And it has to fit within a reasonable budget.

This year, for whatever occasion you are giving a present, consider the living gift of a bonsai tree. Bonsai trees are regular trees (and shrubs) that have been trained to grow at a miniature size. While there are traditional trees such as junipers and cedars that are typically turned into bonsai trees, almost any plant can be grown at a reduced size. Including many trees that produce spectacular flowers and even fruit.

So what makes a bonsai tree such a special gift? Of course, their beauty is one special quality. And it is a beauty that will change overtme as the bonsai tree grows and changes. There is an almost mystical tradition behind bonsai trees which hearkens to the mysterious Orient.

There is the challenge to maintaining a bonsai tree. While keeping most bonsai trees alive and thriving is relatively easy. To help structure its future growth means the recipient of a bonsai tree will want to learn a whole new body of knowledge. And, finally, a bonsai tree can last a lifetime or longer.

Who is a good candidate for receiving a bonsai tree as a gift? Anyone who is old enough to be responsible for caring for a plant. I remember giving a bonsai tree to a nephew a few years ago. I was there on Christmas when he opened up the box I had wrapped the night before. And, I admit, it was not the gift he was most excited over. But over the years, he cared for the bonsai and created a special replationship with the tree. It was one of the few things he took with him, when he went to college… More adult people will immediately recognize how special a bonsai tree is.

So put the bonsai tree on your list of potential gifts this year. It is truly a gift that can surprise and delight as well as last a lifetime.

Inversion Tables - Do They Really Work?

Nov
02

Back pain strikes thousands of people all over the world daily. The use of inversion tables has become more popular to help treat back pain and improve overall back and spine health is a popular remedy that has been in existence for much longer than many of us realize. However, the question that most often arises is do inversion tables work?

As early as 400 B.C. Hippocrates, also known as the Father of Medicine, is known to have used ropes and pulleys to suspend a patient suffering from back pain. Gravity was the key ingredient in the treatment, allowing the joints of the body to naturally decompress and ease pain.

Since then, inversion therapy and the benefits of inversion tables have gone through multiple incarnations across the world, becoming widely recognized in the United States during the 1960s thanks to a California doctor named Robert Martin. Martin created the “Gravity Guidance System,” which used the effects of gravity on the human body as a remedy for everything from back pain to poor posture.

The development of the Gravity Guidance inversion table by Dr. Martin in the 1970s led to the increasing popularity of inversion, which reached new heights during the 1980s with the invention of gravity boots and multiple manufacturers of other types of inversion equipment. Throughout the years, the medical community went back and forth on whether or not inversion was indeed a successful pain treatment. Eventually, they concluded that any fears about inversion therapy were greatly exaggerated, and that inversion caused no harm to the body and could, in fact, do some good.

With these findings, inversion came back into fashion in the 1990s and is now a fairly popular health market, with many people swearing that it’s the ultimate way to eliminate pain. Inversion enthusiasts all over the world tout it as ideal for all age and fitness levels, and a great way to help with chronic back and joint problems that cannot be fixed by other methods. Always be sure to consult a doctor before taking any medical advice.
